Turbidity Alert (Melfort)
June 15, 2012
Attention: Melfort Regional Potable Water Supply System Customers:
SaskWater would like to advise its customers that due to the extremely turbid water levels expected to arrive at Codette Lake over the weekend, SaskWater may be required to temporarily suspend treatment at its Melfort treatment plant. SaskWater staff will be monitoring the turbidity levels on an ongoing basis, and should treatment operations need to be temporarily suspended, they would resume once the turbidity in the lake returns to a manageable level.
As a result of this possible service disruption, customers supplied by the Melfort system are asked to ensure their storage levels are maximized prior to the weekend and also limit their water use wherever possible over the next few days until the extreme turbidity situation has passed.
Please note that a Precautionary Drinking Water Advisory (PDWA) may need to be issued to some customers should a plant shutdown be required. This PDWA would remain in effect until the follow-up protocol has been completed assuring that the potable water meets regulatory standards. SaskWater will notify its affected customers should a PDWA be issued, and accordingly, notify customers once again when it is lifted.
SaskWater apologizes for any inconvenience that this potential service disruption may cause. Any questions regarding the above should be directed to:
SaskWater Customer Service at 1-888-230-1111.
